More About Us

We've been dancing weekly since 1979 for fun, culture, exercise, and socializing. The dances we teach and dance come from all over the world. We focus on dances of the Balkan countries and their neighbors (Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Greece, Turkey, Israel, & Hungary), but we also do dances from Scandinavia, England, Japan, Africa, and other places. Come and join us some Friday night!

We also have a performing/teaching group called Bistra Voda ("Clear Water", or Eau Claire, in Bulgarian). Contact us if you're interested in having Bistra Voda perform and/or teach folk dancing at your event.

What: Ordinary folks enjoying recreational folk dancing from all over the world … No partners needed … wear soft shoes and comfortable clothing (no costumes) … We periodically have live music events such as Circles/Sets/Squares with Duck for the Oyster of Sarona, WI and an Irish Ceili with Gan Ainm of St. Paul, MN. Check our on-line calendar or call for details.

When: Every Friday at 7:30 p.m. (teaching from 7:30 - 8:30, followed by request dancing). The first Friday of the month is Beginners' Night - easier dances are taught and done.

Where: YMCA Fitness and Training Center, 206 Emery St., Eau Claire, Wisconsin (corner of Emery & Graham, across from the main downtown YMCA building).

Who: Anybody can join us! We do ask that any children come with a parent, and that children either dance or play quietly so that all may enjoy the evening. We have had dancers from 5 to 75!

Why: To learn more about the wonderful dances of many ethnic regions; to move to different rhythms; to meet interesting people; to get good exercise; to have fun; and to build a community in the circles and lines of folk dance.
