You can dance the Slow Waltz to most music that has a 3-count beat and has 28–30 beats per minute. Slow Waltz tunes are often slow ÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂ¾ time ballads or instrumentals.

Steps

Waltz form: heel lead, always keep knees slightly bent, always close feet together at count #3 of each 1–2−3 (with exceptions for advanced moves).

Basic Box (6 counts; "Forward-Right-Close, Back-Left-Close")
- L F; R F & to Rside; Close (Step L next to R and free weight from R)
- R B; L B & to Lside; close (Step R next to L and free weight from L)
Right box turn
Left box turn
Basic Progressive
- L F; R F & to Rside; Step L next to R and free weight from R
- R F; L F & to Lside; Step R next to L and free weight from L
Outside Underarm turn (6-count walkaround)
Pinwheel turn
Inside Underarm turn
- 1–2−3: F-R-close (normal first half of box)
- 4: just before you step back on L, bring L handhold between you & W and toward your R
- 5–6: While W turns 3/4 CC, M steps in place & turns 1/4 CW to face W

Twinkle
Underarm Twirl to Twinkle
- Lead: Raise L handhold while facing L and stepping on L as if to begin a Promenade Hesitation.
- 1–2−3: M faces and steps to his L on 1–2, then pivots CC to face W again on 3 (close R foot to L). W turns 360 degrees CW.
- 4–5−6: Both do a Twinkle.
Progressive Twinkles (serpentine / continuous twinkles)
Crossbody Lead - same as in Rumba
Flip-flops (Woman flops) [same as Progressive Twinkles?]
Traveling Twinkle → Flip-flops (Man flops) [is Traveling Twinkle the same as Forward Twinkle?]
Forward Twinkle
- L (normal)
- R step betw. W feet - turn R foot and upper body toward W, head to LOD
- L step toward LOD with L foot pointed toward LOD; feet do not close.
- Twinkle: R cross, L, R close
Spirals to Forward Twinkle
- Do one or more spirals
- Like Fwd Twinkle, but first L is outside W to your R and pull W over to R
- Then R step betw. W feet & continue as in normal Fwd Twinkle.
Promenade Chasse (like a Fwd Twinkle with an extra tip-toe step)
- Like Forward Twinkle, but last part is
- Twinkle - R cross, [lrl], R cross, L, R close (where [lrl] is a 2-beat tiptoe step "2-and-3")
Grapevine
1. step Fwd on L (basically a normal L step)
2. step M R to outside L of W with pivot cw on R keeping L foot in same postion relative to R
3. rock back onto L
4. step back on R
5. step back on L with pivot cc on L keeping R foot in same postion relative to L
6. rock fwd onto R
Waltz Fans (36 beats?!)
- 6 counts: left crossover turn (6 counts). End up facing 1/8 turn R of LOD (slightly toward outside wall) in outside partner postion
- 3 counts: Left Fwd Fan:
  - 1 count: step fwd on L to outside R of W
  - 2 counts: swivel 90 degrees CC on L foot, bringing R along for ride
- 3 counts: Right Fwd Fan:
  - 1 count: step fwd on R to outside L of W
  - 2 counts: swivel 90 degrees CW on R foot, bringing L along for ride
- Left Fwd Fan
- Right Fwd Fan
- 3 counts: first half of left crossover — but small steps, not rotating as far as usual; end up facing 90 deg L of LOD
- Right Back Fan
- Left Back Fan
- Right Back Fan
- Left Back Fan
- 3 counts: second half of left cross over: step back on R, then L side-together. These 3 steps turn CC & you end up facing 1/8 turn R of LOD again.
- (continue with L change step)
Develope during Sprials (Jan '06 / Goggin)
- Start from Spirals
- 1–2−3: M steps fwd step on L as usual (to W outside R), then F again in same direction on R, then pivots CW 180 degrees on both feet
- 1–2−3: M (now facing the opposite direction as the W is facing) steps Fwd on L and hesitates for 2 counts (leaving R foot in place behind him) W does the Develope during this hesitation.
- 1–2−3: M replaces weght on R, pivots about 45 degrees CC to step on L, and then closes with R. He's now ready to start his next move with a Fwd L.
