Circling Cuban Walk
Rumba Open Break
- 1st half of box, side, back-rock
- (The Open Break is a good lead into the underarm turn, change of places, or shadow walks)
Rumba Open Break to Lady's Outside Underarm Turn
- Open Break
- M does 5th postion to left while W turns
- Both do 5th postion to right
Rumba Change of Places
- Open Break (change to handshake hold) [or W outside turn to handshake hold]
- Pull W toward you and change places
- Repeat back to original place
- To get out: SQQ: turn W CC under R handshake, S: both side step to R; Q: 5th position break to R

Rumba Shadow Walks
1. Get into change of places
2. As W begins her cw turn, stop her in mid-turn with R hand on her R hip (M is behind & left of W, his L hand under her L, his R hand on her R hip)
3. Walk fwd CW while W walks backward CW, QQS, QQS, …
4. To get out:
(official): while M steps Right-Slow, turn & release W CW… then both do QQ to L, then return to the Basic Step (starting with Man's Left Foot Fwd-Slow).
(invented): while M steps Left-Slow, turn & release W CW… Then, facing each other and very close:
- Both do QQ to R
- Slow side step to R, Back-rock (on the "Back" M pushes W away with his R hand on her hip; you're then in single handhold)
- Return to Basic, but make first L land alongside R (instead of Fwd)
Rumba Shadow Breaks
1. get into Shadow Walk
2. after M Right Slow change QQ to fwd-rock, checking W with R hand on her R hip
3. L slow in 5th position, side-rock behind W (M R-L; W L-R)
4. M Right slow to return to shadow walk or do another shadow break
- To get out: return to shadow walk
Rumba Second-position Breaks with Crossover (Jan '06 / Goggin)
- Maneuver out of standard dance postion and into a double handhold.
- S: Instead of sidestepping on the slow step, crossover: pivot the stationary foot away from the crossing foot (to make room for the crossing foot) and trace the toe of the crossing foot in front of the stationary foot.
- QQ: step to the side and close.
- Repeat with opposite feet
- To get out, step fwd on L and do a Basic.
